For more than a decade, The SEA People have been dedicated to protecting and restoring Raja Ampat\u2019s reefs. Our name stood for Science. Education. Awareness. And that that last word – awareness – was crucial. But over time throughout the world, this has become a comfortable catchphrase, a way to feel engaged without taking real action.<\/p>\n

But we\u2019ve always been about action. Because we believe conservation isn\u2019t just about knowing\u2014it\u2019s about doing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That\u2019s why today, we\u2019re making it crystal clear:<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd25 The SEA People now stands for Science. Education. ACTION.<\/strong> \ud83d\udd25<\/p>\n

Because\u00a0 knowing is not enough.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Problem with \u2018Awareness\u2019 Alone<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For decades, so many impactful campaigns have focused on raising awareness<\/strong>\u2014convincing people that the ocean is in trouble. And it\u2019s worked. Today, there are more people than ever who know about coral bleaching, plastic pollution, overfishing, amongst the myriad of other marine threats.<\/p>\n

Raising awareness has played an important role in conservation – and it continues to be a critical first step.<\/strong> But now, with the ocean in extreme crisis, the next step\u2014direct, tangible action<\/strong>\u2014is what truly makes a difference.<\/p>\n

Because here\u2019s the truth:
\ud83d\udd39 Coral reefs are still declining.<\/strong>
\ud83d\udd39 Marine species are still disappearing.<\/strong>
\ud83d\udd39 Ecosystems are still collapsing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why? Because awareness alone doesn\u2019t restore reefs, remove destructive threats, or empower local communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Social media has made it easier than ever to \u201cengage\u201d with conservation\u2014from liking a post to sharing a documentary clip. But passive engagement doesn\u2019t create change.<\/strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong> Awareness without action is like knowing your house is on fire but doing nothing to put it out.<\/p>\n

Why ACTION Is Needed\u2014Right Now<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Raja Ampat is the most biodiverse marine environments on Earth<\/strong>. But every day, its reefs are at risk<\/strong><\/span><\/a> from both local and global threats<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf0a\u00a0 In 2024\/25, a record breaking marine heat wave elevated sea temperature higher, earlier and for longer.<\/strong>
\u26a0\ufe0f\u00a0 Every few months, new development\u00a0 (many labelled \u2018eco\u2019) encroach upon and threaten pristine marine ecosystems.<\/strong>
\ud83d\udc20\u00a0 Without sustainable and alternative livelihoods, communities are left with few choices but to extract and exploit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But Oceans don\u2019t have time for passive concern.<\/strong>
Coral reefs don\u2019t have the luxury of waiting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

These ecosystems, and all that depend on them, need immediate, direct, and tangible action. Now.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What Science, Education, and ACTION Look Like at The SEA People<\/strong><\/h2>\n
